How to Renew your Minnesota Driver’s License

The Minnesota driver’s license does not remain valid indefinitely and must be renewed after a certain time period. The date of the expiry of the license will be the same as the birth date of the holder, and license will remain valid until four birthdays have passed since the license was issued or since the last renewal date. In order to continue driving in the state of Minnesota you will have to renew your driver’s license. Unlike other states, Minnesota currently only allows license renewals to be done in person at the DOT office.

Renewing in person means going to a DOT office, and therefore the first step of this process is to find a convenient DOT office location. Once you have found a good location the next step is to aggregate all of the necessary documents. First of all, you will need to bring either you expiring driver’s license or some other proof of ID. In case you have changed you name you will also have to bring a certified court order which mentions this change, such as a marriage certificate or a certificate of divorce. When renewing you licensed you will also need to know you Social Security number in order to finish one of the forms. The next step after the forms are finished will be for you to take another vision test to determine if you are still physically capable of driving a vehicle. If you pass the vision test and all of the forms are accepted by the DMV workers then a new photograph of you will be taken to be put on the new license. The whole procedure is covered by a renewal fee of $24 and both cash and personal check are considered acceptable payment methods.
